Keane delighted with options

Friday 05 Sep 2008

Sunderland manager Roy Keane believes the moves the club made to bolster his squad before the transfer window closed has left them in a strong position.

Keane beat Monday's deadline to wrap up the signing of left-back George McCartney from West Ham United.

The Black Cats had already secured the signings of Anton Ferdinand, Steed Malbranque, Pascal Chimbonda, Teemu Tainio, El-Hadji Diouf, David Healy and Djibril Cisse during a busy summer at the Stadium Of Light.

"I'm delighted with what we've got," Keane told the club's official website.

"I was pleased to get George (McCartney) on the last day of business, very much so.

"We left it late but we'd been trying to negotiate with West Ham for a week or so. Fortunately for us we got it done on the final day.

"That was the player I thought we needed in terms of the left-back position.

"At least it's over with now and we can relax and focus on the players we have."
