Aston Villa winger Ashley Young has revealed his disappointment at being left out of the England squad for the World Cup qualifying double header against Andorra and Croatia.

Young was part of Fabio Capello's squad that took on Trinidad & Tobago at the end of last season in a friendly, but has not been called back up to the international stage during the current campaign.

The 23-year-old has scored two goals in six appearances this season and hopes to play his way back into Capello's plans with more consistent displays for the Midlands club.

Villa boss Martin O'Neill spoke of his surprise during the week that Young had been omitted from the latest 23-man international squad.

"You always want to be in the squad when it is announced and there was a bit of disappointment when I saw I wasn't included," Young told the club's official website.

"But it's the manager's decision. I just have to keep playing well for Villa. The main focus is my club form.

"I can't dwell on being left out because it won't change anything.

"All I need to do is keep working hard in training and play well for Villa."
